Slow Cooked Lamb Chops

Updated: Jun 26, 2023

This would be the easiest recipe in my collection and one of my favourites. My mother's sister would bring us fresh lamb chops from their farm when she would visit and gave us this fabulously simple recipe. Mum and I were amazed how simple and tasty it was!

Can just be done with two ingredients or feel free to add your own additions. I started first with just the two ingredients but now I create all sorts of versions.

It drives me nuts reading a whole essay before being able to get to the actual recipe so here it is. Will give a bit of narrative at the end if anyone is keen.

Slowed cooked lamb chops

Ingredients

1kg lamb chops

1 packet of french onion soup mix

Olive oil

Optional:

Sliced onions

Sliced mushrooms

Sliced potatoes

Sliced carrots

Cherry tomatoes

Recipe

  1. Drizzle some olive oil in the base of your slow cooker

  2. Add lamb chops....tip: add them like you are dealing cards out...not standing upright

  3. Sprinkle french onion soup on top of lamb chops

  4. Cook on low for 6 hours

This recipe can be cooked on high for 3-4hrs but I always prefer low and slow with slow cooking....it is called slow after all.

I prefer using the lamb chops that have quite a bit of meat on them but any style works. I'd save the beautiful lamb cutlets for something more fancy but hey whatever floats your boat.

This is easiest done in a larger slow cooker so the chops are not stacked on top of each other but I have also successfully made this in a taller slow cooker.

Hints: a slow cooker is called a crock pot too. French onion soup is a powdered soup mix we get in Australia and New Zealand. We also combine it with sour cream and mayonnaise to create a dip. In New Zealand they use chips or 'crisps' to dip with however in Australia I had only ever used crackers like Jatz. Only a chip if there were no crackers left! Love all the different ways things are eaten and done!
